FROM Indraloka Animal Sanctuary
September 2020

A rough, rope-like, metal substance was embedded muscle-deep around his entire body. If we hadn't rescued Chandra, he would have died.

Chandra Pig

Chandra was emaciated and near death when he was found abandoned on the side of the highway. A rough, rope-like, metal substance was embedded muscle-deep around his entire body. It must have been wrapped so tightly for so long that it burrowed deep in his flesh. His pain must have been unbearable. The wound was severely infected, so he was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery to remove the material from his small body.

Chandra Pig

He arrived at Indraloka late in the evening after his life-saving surgery. Chandra looked at me with trust in his eyes. He grunted the soft, high grunt of a piglet to a momma, and I remembered why we do what we do.

Because Chandra is precious, and he can teach us resilience, open-heartedness, and that love has the power to heal-- all skills we can surely use right now.

We were not planning on rescuing more animals in 2020. Not only were we over capacity at the time, but we are working so hard to complete our new home in Dalton so that we can rescue more animals in need.

But Chandra would have died. We were not going to let that happen.

After surgery, Chandra began to gain weight, his wounds began to heal, and finally, he was loved-- wholly and completely and unequivocally, the way that every pig and every being deserves to be. It’s been about seven months since Chandra’s rescue, and I am excited to share that he is THRIVING!
