Draven arrived at Jungle Friends after bouncing between three different homes.
In January 2019 we were contacted about Draven self-mutilating, his human was desperate to get him to the sanctuary; however, we wanted to address his nasty self-inflicted wound right away and get him the vet care he desperately needed. Draven never got to the vet and in February Draven’s human contacted Kari in a panic because Draven had escaped his waist collar and she planned to call animal control to come out and dart him. Kari contacted April Truitt, Founder of Primate Rescue Center and she hopped the next plane, safely capturing Draven in a transport cage and headed to Jungle Friends!
Draven is preparing to leave his home in Las Vegas for his new "Almost
Wild" home at Jungle Friends
2,800 road miles, blizzards, and round-the-clock monkey care could not stop April! With the aid of some amazing people along the way, including Dr. Patrick Kalenzi & Hanna at Rock Creek Veterinary Hospital in Denver, Draven was able to receive life-saving medication to treat his previously undiagnosed diabetes, as well as receive treatment to clean and bandage his large, open wound caused by self-mutilation (a behavior we see all too often in "pet" monkeys). Even though Draven was in rough shape, he was a good traveler and watched the scenery pass by from the comfort of his hammock in his travel cage.
Kari introduces herself to Draven, and tells him not to worry. He is in
good hands. — at Jungle Friends
After several days of driving, April and Draven made it to Jungle Friends.
We feel fortunate to have such a strong network of reputable sanctuaries who
work together in order to give monkeys a new beginning and experience the
gift of sanctuary!
This is the spacious habitat that Draven will be moving in soon!
