Her blindness means Chaim never really knows when it is day or night, so we play music in the infirmary in the daytime to help her distinguish between the two.

blind Chicken

This month's featured beloved is feisty chicken Chaim (pronounced HAh-yim).

Because she is blind, Chaim lives in our infirmary, the home for those precious friends who are differently abled and unable to live among other animals. Though she cannot see, Chaim enjoys spending her days exploring around the infirmary and eating treats. Though she hasn't always been friends with other chickens, Chaim now spends time with Arthur, a new arrival in the infirmary. The two can often be seen cuddling with one another.

Her blindness means Chaim never really knows when it is day or night, so we play music in the infirmary in the daytime to help her distinguish between the two. Despite this, she takes quick cat naps before getting up to stretch and roam around. And when it comes to treats, she has surprisingly good aim at pecking her food!

Because of the care we are able to give Chaim, she can be assured of living out her days in quiet peace here with us.
