What is it that makes some humans so drawn to animals?

Each of us has a special connection to an animal; wild or domestic and there is always something we can learn from them. We think they can learn from us, but our teaching is very limited considering that they have already arrived in that place of peace and acceptance of themselves.

I am one of those who prefer animal company over human interaction. It’s not that I relate to animals more; being a human being I obviously have the same language, and expression that other humans do.

I have found something in animals that humans don’t have. I see that they are always trustworthy. They are genuine and purposeful. There are no hidden agendas or lack of substance. If I were to put a virtue on it, it would be integrity. They are who they are without lies or filters or pretenses. I can trust that animal to be who it was created to be; whereas I do not find that same characteristic in people.

I find comfort in being with those whom I can trust; I can trust my dog not to talk behind my back, even in jest. I can trust my dog to let me know when he is not happy.

I can spend time with my dog in silence and know that we are in sync with each other just by being together. My dog has taught me the value of just being. He is in the moment and that moment is all important and all absorbing. He keeps me in the precious presence and allows me the freedom to be all that I want to be in that moment. I can sing out of tune or dance off step and he never judges; in fact he encourages me with the wag of his tail. I can cry and although he will show his concern by pawing me or nudging me with his nose, he never requires me to have an answer for my tears. He just accepts that I am in the moment and I am sad and he is there and that is what he wants me to know.

Each of us has a special connection to an animal; wild or domestic and there is always something we can learn from them. We think they can learn from us, but our teaching is very limited considering that they have already arrived in that place of peace and acceptance of themselves.

In this position where they don’t have to prove themselves, they can love and accept us without baggage.

So hug your pet and show kindness to all animals. Treat them with the respect they deserve.

They treat us with love and respect and we owe them nothing less.
