Jain and Kiwi

Though having had hard lives as kittens, both Jain and Kiwi are sorely missed but we’re glad they were able to have long, healthy lives surrounded by people who loved them.

Cats Jain Kiwi

It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Jain and Kiwi within a week of one another over the Christmas break.

JAIN

Cat Jain

Although having a terrible start to life (we found her on a country road after being thrown from a moving car – she sustained a broken jaw, torn off right ear and life-long nerve damage that prevented her from closing her right eye) Jain went on to be the happiest and most active cat I’ve ever known. She joined my household just as the animal advocacy group I was volunteering with began bringing in animal rights leaders to speak.

She loved each and every one of them but had a particular penchant for perching upon the laps of rather famous men – men like Captain Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd Origins, ex-rancher and writer Howard Lyman (AKA The Mad Cowboy), and former Green Party of Manitoba Leader Marcus Buchart.

Jain had been given a terminal diagnosis 2 years ago but continued to enjoy napping in the sun, demanding fresh water directly from the tap at all hours and only eating food covered in copious amounts of gravy.

KIWI

Cat Kiwi

Olivier adopted Kiwi from a vet clinic in Nova Scotia where she had been dumped as a kitten. Kiwi was extraverted, talkative and a big cuddler – with everyone, including the late Walter the Pug who adored her.

Kiwi was truly the sweetest cat anyone could ever meet and had nothing but love for absolutely everyone.

Both Jain and Kiwi are sorely missed but we’re glad they were able to have long, healthy lives surrounded by people who loved them.
