FROM VINE Sanctuary Vegan Is the Next Evolution
July 16, 2020

As years went by, Lamby welcomed and helped to acclimate sheep, goats, and calves alike at our sanctuary. She was also friendly to chickens, sometimes letting them rest in her soft wool or ride on her back.

Lamb Lamby

Please join us in honoring and remembering Lamby, who died today following a stroke. She was 14 years old. Lamby came to the sanctuary in 2012 with calf Coco, with whom she was deeply bonded. She quickly took lamb Nigel under her care as well.

As years went by, she welcomed and helped to acclimate sheep, goats, and calves alike. She was also friendly to chickens, sometimes letting them rest in her soft wool or ride on her back.

Lamby was forthright, sociable, charismatic, and persistent. A natural leader, and always doggedly determined to achieve her goals, Lamby was the opposite of the (false) stereotype of sheep. Pattrice remembers Lamby using her hooves to knock at the door (really the doorstep) when visiting her Airstream. Cheryl and Kathy were accustomed to hearing her call at their gate for them to come out.

Everyone can remember Lamby inserting herself into situations or just coming up to say hello.

Lamby is survived by her friends Syrah and Lemon (also elder ewes), by her occasional playmate Mirana (an elder goat), young Shadow (a younger ewe who drew comfort from being near her), and by her beloved Coco. Everyone in the front pasture community sheep and cows and goats and chickens and so many more will surely miss her steady presence. All of the humans will deeply miss her too.

In lieu of flowers, feel free to send leafy greens and watermelon (Lambys favorite) to her grieving friends.
