Rest in Peace Peach, you will forever be missed. Don't worry we will look after your baby Plum and she will have a beautiful life!

Black Angus Peach

It brings me a lot of pain to type this newsletter out, but I feel it is best to let everyone know what's going on at our Sanctuary, since you are the reason we are able to keep our doors open and continue our dreams.

Peach, our rescued black angus cow, passed away overnight between the hours of Wednesday night, Thursday morning. I don't know the exact time she passed, but I was with her until about 10:00pm Wednesday night.

Since that happened the past 24 hours have been really rough. I cried most of yesterday since I thought she was really getting better. To see her baby, Plum, try to nudge her body really broke my spirit. I had to remove her from the pen, and move her across the barn to another pen.

Peach and her baby Plum...

We spent a lot of time, energy, and remedies to try to bring Peach back to good health. We tried giving her lots of extra fluids, different electrolytes, mineral infused drinks, supplements that had to be carefully placed in her feed, and even fortified feed that she absolutely hated to eat.

I remember sitting next to her on Wednesday night when she was in pain (she was making some very low rumbling noises) and I placed her head in my lap until she calmed down and was gentle petting her big head. She fell asleep in my lap, but because of her heavy head my legs fell asleep too, so I had to carefully move myself without waking her up. But she did wake up momentarily, but I gently placed her head back into a straw pillow I created, and she went back to sleep. I didn't think that would be the last time I would get to see her...

Rest in Peace Peach, you will forever be missed. Don't worry we will look after Plum and she will have a beautiful life!
