Thornton was a smart guy. He had a degree in Psychology and was now majoring in Sociology. He was twenty-four and working on his second degree at a prestigious university. He wanted to finish this second degree before looking at how he would apply it in the job market. Since he already had his basic preliminary courses finished, he was able to get the Sociology degree in less than three years.
At age twenty-seven, he now had two degrees under his belt and was now ready to tackle getting a job. After several weeks, he found that their was little call for psychology or sociology in entry level positions in the market place and so he went back to the university to acquire a third degree in something useful. After researching for a few weeks, classes were beginning to start and so he made a rush decision and began a major in archeology.
Two and a half years later, he had the third degree, but he thought to himself, who needs a guy who knows a lot about old bones and so he began looking for the next degree that he would acquire.
Over the next few decades, he received additional degrees such as a Bachelor in Art History, Bachelor of Arts in Medieval Studies, Masters in Public Affairs, Media Studies, Gender Studies, Classical Theatre, The Study of Western Civilization and many others, bringing him a total of a dozen degrees.
He was fifty now and ready for a job. His scholarships had run out and he needed to make money. After leaving the campus dorm, he leased an apartment and began putting in applications and resumes with dozens of corporations. He was proud of his educational experience, but what he found was he had absolutely no job experience at all.
When rent was due, he got a temporary job with an upscale restaurant. When he showed up on the first day of work, he wondered if they would take advantage of his vast educational experience. What they did was tied an apron around him and put him in the dish room. Thornton was a dishwasher much to his surprise. But he was the smartest dishwasher they had ever had!
