Our back issues starting with 1982 document the history of a movement; at one time, the animal rights movement was the fastest-growing social cause in the world. We are proud to have played a role in its development.

The Animals Voice has published more than 90 issues of its magazine
from early 1982 (as a 4-page newsletter) to a full color,
award-winning international publication by the late 1980s.
The first few issues of the magazine were printed on Laura Moretti’s
typewriter (an IBM Selectric model), and from professionally
generated headlines Laura snuck out of the newspapers she worked for
at the time. Laura eventually quit the newspaper racket and opened
her own graphic design studio in Chico, California, called ‘Just
Your Type.’ There, after normal work hours, she produced the
magazine using state-of-the-art printing equipment, and had the
magazine printed at a small print business directly across the
street from her shop.
After a visit to Chico (for lectures he gave at California State
University, Chico—or Chico State as it is locally known)—Tom Regan
spent time with Laura and learned she was about to fold the
publication due to financial reasons, so he put her in touch with
successful businessman Gil Michaels. On a promise he would publish
the magazine internationally and in full color, Gil relocated Laura
to Los Angeles and, together, they put The Animals Voice Magazine
onto the world stage.
We owe our success to Tom—as well as a lot of our ‘voice.’ So
herewith you will find more than 90 issues of The Animals Voice
Magazine in all of its incarnations over the past 30-plus years.
