INFORMATION / TALKING POINTS
I am writing as your constituent to urge you to oppose the Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2013. This bill would legitimize "enriched" cages at a critical time when the public and many companies are clamoring for a move away from all cages. If signed into law, this legislation may also overturn state-level cage bans and prevent future bans from being enacted.
"Furnished" or "enriched" cages, which can house up to 60 birds, do not offer anything close to sufficient space for the birds to express natural behavior and can never be thought of as even remotely humane. At best, they are simply somewhat less cruel.
Please don't endorse the cruel confinement of hens on egg farms to cages. Oppose the Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2013.
