On MONDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1999 Howard Lyman will speak from
7pm-9pm
at the Virginia Commonwealth University Business Building Auditorium
(Floyd
Ave & North Harrison Street), in Richmond Virginia.
Howard Lyman is a cattle rancher turned vegetarian
activist who is best
known for his appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" were he debated
Gary Weber of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association. Lyman's
comments
about Mad Cow Disease caused Winfrey to say that she had been "stopped
cold from eating another burger." Texas cattle ranchers responded by
suing
Lyman and Winfrey for libel. Not only did the ranchers loose the trial,
but they
also stirred up a national debate on free speech and the safety of the
US Beef
Industry.
This event is organized by Richmond Animal Rights
Network and paid for by
