In the February 1st issue of Alert For Action! we
brought you an article en-
titled "Goats and Sheep Impounded", which told about a Ms. Linville who
had
her animals impounded by the Animal Control in West Palm Beach, Florida.
We have since found that there is another side to the story.
We have received information from both Animal Control
and the Animal Rights
Foundation of Florida (ARFF) that the animals were removed from Ms
Linville's
property in an animal cruelty seizure case because they were suffering
from
malnutrition and starvation in her care. She was not providing them with
food,
water or shelter.
Palm Beach County currently has custody of the goats, as
awarded by the
courts. Animal Care & Control has worked very hard to improve their
medical
and physical condition. Many of the goats are still undergoing
significant
veterinary treatment with approximately 30 of the goats still on
medication.
As of this date, the courts have not determined the
final means by which the
goats will be released or auctioned to new owners. Animal Care & Control
does a background check on each person to which animals involved in a
cruelty case are released. Additionally, each person to which an animal
is
released must sign a legal document mandating that the animal be given a
humane existence.
The Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control Division
has also indicated
that they appreciate everyone's concern in this matter, and that they
feel that
"it would appear that we are all working toward the same cause, the
health
and welfare of all animals".
There are often two sides (or more) to a story, and in
fairness to all parties,
we at Animal Rights Online endeavor to give you, our readers, the
information
you need to come to your own conclusions. For all who wrote to Animal
Control, the District Attorney, and/or other government officials, be
assured
that your comments made it quite clear that these animals do have
advocates
and that we are all watching and concerned about their welfare.
