I am pleased to announce that a House companion to S.
345, the federal anti-
cockfighting legislation, has been introduced. It's H.R. 1275,
introduced by
Representatives Collin Peterson (D-MN) and Joe Scarborough (R-FL). The
legislation closes a loophole in the Animal Welfare Act and bars any
interstate
transport of fighting cocks.
This is not cosmetic legislation. There is major
interstate movement of fighting
birds. The cockfighting industry is apoplectic about this legislation.
Please contact your two U.S. Senators in support of S.
345 and your U.S.
Representative in support of H.R. 1275. All legislators can be reached
through
the Congressional switchboard at 202-224-3121.
