I have never seen so many "Got Milk?" billboards around
town and so many milk ads on television as I have lately. The Dairy
Industry appears to be conducting an increased campaign to convince the
public that milk is an important part of our diets. Could this be a last
ditch effort to imprint in the gullible minds of Americans the lie that
milk builds strong bones before they are forced to stop saying this?
False Advertising
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine
(PCRM), PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), the
Anti-Dairy Coalition and a number of other groups have challenged the
USDA and the Federal Trade Commission that it is false advertising to
say that milk can improve bone density or in any way help prevent or
alleviate osteoporosis. Studies throughout this decade have proven that
an increase in calcium consumption doesn't help build bone strength. The
excess protein of a meat or dairy based diet is the principle cause of
calcium loss in our bodies. A twelve year study at Harvard University of
75,000 women found that those who got their calcium from milk actually
broke more bones than those who followed a vegetarian diet. The
consumption of acidic animal proteins, such as are found in dairy
products, cause calcium to be leeched from bones to balance the general
pH of the body. The countries of the world with the highest rates of
dairy consumption also have the highest rates of osteoporosis.
Think about our Federal Government supporting the dairy
industry with the school milk programs. Think about our children taking
in recombinant bovine growth hormone, bacteria, excess protein,
saturated fats and cholesterol.
Compassion
If you are into Animal Rights, think about the dairy
cows in factory farms, think about how the veal industry is a direct
offshoot of the dairy industry. Dairy cows are impregnated over and over
again to keep them producing milk and the calves are made into veal.
Conspiracy
Take a look at the Dairy Industry Ads. They know they
are misleading the public and they are careful to tread the fine line
between misrepresentation and outright lies.
Calcium Builds Bones. Milk has Calcium. (They don't
explain the excess animal protein factor)
Want Strong Bones? Got Milk? ( They don't say Milk
builds strong bones). A few years ago the Dairy Industry was forced to
stop saying "Milk, it Does a Body Good" because most of the African
Americans and Asian Americans and Hispanic Americans are lactose
intolerant. Let's force them to tell the rest of the truth. Milk, it
Does Nobody Good.
