The International Meatless Day Campaign was first
started in India in 1986 by the Sadhu Vaswani Mission which is a social
service organization dedicated to serving mankind especially the poor
and downtrodden. Every year millions all over the world pledge to
observe November 25th as a Meatless Day. Last year 7 million people all
over the pledged to go meatless including 3500 from Malaysia.
The campaign requires people to pledge to abstain from
consuming all forms of meat, fish and fowl on this day. By not consuming
meat, one practices reverence for life and this we believe is the first
step towards world peace. It is hoped that this campaign will lead to an
increased awareness of the benefits of a meatless diet.
