Anti-fur ads by CEASE/Center for Animal Protection are
now up on the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) red line
and blue line, and will be running once or twice a week in the Boston
Globe.
This year's campaign aims at fur trim, and brings in the
use of dog fur for trim sold in the US.
Background:
Fur trim accounts for a substantial portion of the fur market, and
many people who would not wear a fur coat still buy fur trim.
An investigation by HSUS this year revealed that dogs
and cats in China are raised and killed for fur trim sold around the
world, including the US. Videotape of the conditions for the animals,
and the method of skinning the animals while still alive were shown on
Dateline earlier this year. It is some of the most gruesome footage
imaginable.
Equally horrible is the suffering of animals in traps
and fur farms in the US. It is hoped that for the general public, the
association of companion animals with fur trim will make people more
conscious of the issue, and more interested in rejecting fur in any
form.
