The National Trappers' Discussion list is encouraging
trappers who donate or get employer matching donations to the United Way
to request their donations go to FBU ( FurBearers Unlimited ), a 501(c)3
entirely under the control of the National Trappers Association.
The following is a trapper's posting on how the FBU
board is selected:
"Here is another option that will help trapping; Donate
via United Way but specify where the money is to go - to the sister
organization of the NTA, FurBearers Unlimited [FBU]. NTA lobbies
congress and therefore are not eligible as a recipient of "tax
deductible" donations. As a 501-C-3 approved corporation FBU can receive
"tax deductible" donations. The FBU Board of Directors is set at 7 in
the bylaws, four of which are specified as the current NTA officers. The
other three are elected by the initial four. NTA has control of FBU. You
can donate directly to FBU by mailing your contribution to: FurBearers
Unlimited, Attn Chris Forrest, PO Box 4129, Bloomington, IL 61702."
If you donate to the United Way, SPECIFY a local animal
group to receive your donation; otherwise a portion of your donation may
be used to support animal trapping. (Also check PCRM at http://www.charitiesinfo.org/
and PETA web at http://www.peta-online.org/liv/cc/ccchartest.html to
avoid charities that experiment on animals!)
