You came into my life as a precious bouncing pup,
Instant love and devotion, you filled my heart up,
Golden fur, a heart of gold, and a shiny new face,
We cuddled and ran, and many balls you did chase.
You gave your kindred spirit and joyous endless love,
I knew I was blessed from heaven above,
We played many times in the sand and the sea,
So many lessons in life, you opened those doors for me.
As the years passed, we had two beautiful baby boys,
You kissed them and took care of them; you shared in their joys,
When we were together, you never left my side,
Anything I asked of my Kody, he would unconditionally abide.
All the rescued dogs and cats over the years; you came to be,
A big brother and a teacher, you helped them all to see,
That a loving family would free them from suffering and pain,
And they would not ever have to live on the streets alone again.
One day you stopped eating, and we took you to your vet,
Failing kidneys were the problem but he said do not fret.
We gave you IV fluids, under the skin every night,
You seemed to understand and never once put up a fight.
For another half year, we got our Kody back on track,
Caring for you was an honor and I always will reflect back,
On my stoic golden dog with his wise old white face,
Kody, you gave me the courage to send you to a better place.
I stroked your silky ears as you gently went to sleep,
I could not stop my tears the emotions ran so deep.
But you told me in so many ways you were ready to cross,
Where the friends that passed before you run freely thru the moss.
Once again you will be playing in the sand and the sea,
Bounding thru heaven, where love and peace are the key,
The memories will get me thru until I meet you there,
I canít wait to run my fingers thru your soft golden hair.
When I pass the hardwood floor where you slept everyday,
I wonder if the sadness of losing you will ever go away.
All the other furry shining faces look up at me and say,
Donít worry Mom; we all will be together, forever, someday.
