Research Assistant
Position Objective:
To provide research support for farmed-animal and vegetarian projects
Term of Employment:
Full-time
Reports to:
Director of Vegan Campaigns
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
* Research and interpret data on farmed-animal issues and
vegetarianism
* Obtain necessary data and write fully referenced text for factsheets,
Web pages, white papers, reports, and other correspondence
* Attend scientific conferences and communicate with scientists regarding
specific issues relating to farmed-animal welfare and vegetarianism
* Maintain confidentiality at all times
* Answer correspondence with regard to farmed-animal issues
* Organize press packs for dissemination of casework information
* Analyze technical papers and translate scientific terminology into lay
terms for use in research projects
* Provide research and written reports for use in ongoing or planned
campaigns
* Work on individual cases with members of the public, officials, or
companies to eliminate inhumane or cruel industry practices
* Perform any other duties, as assigned by the director of Vegan Campaigns
Qualifications:
* Proven exceptional writing and research skills
* Proven familiarity with, and ability to apply, medical/scientific
terminology
* Proven ability to make sound, independent judgments
* Ability to conduct in-depth research and handle many different issues
simultaneously
* Ability to organize large research projects in a meaningful manner and
prioritize areas of greatest concern
* Ability to handle cruelty complaint calls in a professional and
confidential manner
* Supportive position, vis-�-vis PETA�s philosophy, and the ability to
professionally advocate PETA�s positions
* Willingness to travel, as needed
* Good proofreading and organizational skills
* Commitment to the objectives of the organization
