A Sad Little Pet
By Jean Collins - Mounds, Oklahoma

Did you drop off your pet today
Along some country road.
Did you take it from the safety
Of its yard and safe abode?

Did you not want it anymore
Because it was blind and old.
Did you not care that it was scared
Out in the rain and in the cold?

You should have seen the way it watched
As each car passed it by
When darkness came and hunger too
I heard your little pet cry.

But then I guess you didn't care
That its sad eyes watched for you.
It just trudged along this country road
As it didn't know what else to do.

God made all these little creatures
For us to take and love.
So remember when you drop them off
God is watching from heaven above.
