As a result of PETA's investigation and the police investigation that it prompted—three members of the family running these hideous facilities have been charged with a total of 97 counts of cruelty to animals for the alleged abuses at their store.

pet trade cruelties

A recent PETA investigation exposed the intense suffering of animals held at a horrific breeding warehouse and pet store in Colorado:

  • Thousands of rodents were confined to crowded, filthy tubs with many dying, dead, and decomposing animals.
  • Thousands of fish and other animals died in tanks and cages beside other living animals.
  • Workers denied ill and injured rats veterinary care and instead “whacked” them—swung them by the tail and slammed them into a hard surface to try to kill them.

We’ve just learned that—as a result of PETA's investigation and the police investigation that it prompted—three members of the family running these hideous facilities have been charged with a total of 97 counts of cruelty to animals for the alleged abuses at their store.

We continue to push local officials to file similar charges against those responsible for the misery documented by our investigation at that hellish breeding warehouse.

PETA investigations reveal the abuse, neglect, and heartbreaking cruelty endured by animals condemned to the pet trade and help bring the perpetrators to justice.
