As we were reading this, we couldn't help but feel a kindred relationship with Paul, for we also face the same struggles when it come to bringing the good news of compassionate living for the whole of God's creation (humans, other animals, and the environment).
We also see the same Christian laxity in their non-response to this message, and even worse, their knowing rejection of it, and thay they are deliberately remaining indifferent to the horrendous suffering all around them, so that they can continue to take pleasure in the fruits of that suffering. Thus, the majority of them go astray. What they are doing is really a form of idolatry.
Thus, most modern day Christians seem to seek a return to the flesh and blood, which Jesus did away with, instead of seeking the spiritual food and drink that brings life to the partakers, and to the whole of creation. People cannot have both life and death, but unfortunately most seem to choose death over everlasting life, for the falsely believe that they can have both.
We strongly believe that it is knowing that they are eating the products of pain and suffering that takes away any blessing they seek.
