Yes, there are inspectors and vets reviewing the operations at slaughter houses, but very little of it is directed toward the welfare of the animals, since most of the methods used are considered to be "standard practice", which is excluded from the animal welfare act.
This is why it is so important for all of us to be vegan, and eat only plant based cuisine, and to encourage other to do the same, for these industries will only change when their money begins to disappear.
