When there are so many different kinds of intelligence, it is difficult to say that individuals of one species are more or less intelligent, let alone cross-species comparisons.

Exactly. These days, many experts are questioning the validity of IQ testing in humans. If we're not sure about the different kinds of human intelligence, it takes hubris to declare animals more or less intelligent. I try to just accept animals for who and what they are, loving each and taking joy in their differences.
