Demonization of Animals
Comments by Mike - 5 Aug 2008

Hi, Bonnie....

Your second point, about how the people on the bus were just watching reminds me of something that happened when I was in Toronto. I was about 1/2 a block East of Yonge Street when I looked up and saw a very large man strangling a boy. People were passing beside the two and not even looking at them. I quickly ran down the street and noticed the boy was turning blue, I yelled at the man to let him go by the time I counted to 3... The man asked, in a sarcastic and mean tone, "What are you going to do when you get to 3?" I replied, "I don't know, but I assure you, I will do something..!" I counted, "One, two... " and just as I was starting to say "three", the man let the boy go and walked away... The boy gasped for breath and was fine... Only when I confronted the man, did a second fellow jump in... and back me up by saying, "Yeah, dude, let go of the kid...!"

This is not the only time I have jumped in when no one else would. I have done this several times, but I will share with you only one more.. Once, while at Spadina and Dundas in Toronto, a large fellow from the Scotts Mission was trying to get a Chinese Postal Worker to fight him.. The Mission fellow was huge with a long shaggy beard.. The Chinese fellow was shaking and there was a crowd of Chinese people standing in a circle just watching... I moved through the circle and stood in-between the two men and allowed the Chinese postal worker to get away.. The man from the Mission just picked up his jacket and went back down Spadina away from China town. Not sure why people sit by and watch such crimes, especially the men...

Take care,

Mike
