God and Suffering
Comments by Elaine - 14 Jan 2009

I'm sure it was God because the scriptures say it was and that He was doing these things in judgement for specific sins/evil. And then, what do you make of the commands of God for the Israelites to go into cities and wipe out every living thing? Its the same God. We don't have to make excuses for Him.

We can't deny some scriptures that we don't agree with and affirm the ones that we do. When we do this, then we are setting ourselves up as gods, we become the final authority. If the Word says it, we need to accept it, whether or not we can begin to understand it. Otherwise, we have chaos. We are not to conform God to our liking, we are to conform ourselves to Him in Christ. It seems that many have things twisted the wrong way around. We cannot begin to fathom God or His purposes. We know that He is righteous and just and holy. I have to remind myself of that when I feel like questioning the way He works in this world. We are anything but and yet we think we can question God or reason away what He has said that He has done or will do? Isn't that rebellion? Surely it is arrogance.

Blessings,

Elaine
