Heifer Project International - Inhumanity in the Name of Humanity
Comments by: Karen L. Moore - 24 Oct 2003

This is in regard to HPI discussion. On the one hand I sympathize with Stephen's comments about the animals being able to eat grasses on untillable land because my Dad would only say, over and over, that his philosophy of food was that you have food and no food. His family had often eaten many, many potatoes because that was what they had. He would not differentiate between foods, only between hunger and food.

However, one of the things we learn in our food studies is that animals kept for food on untillable lands destroy the place for wildlife and wreck havoc with the land as well. So, I think we can safely withdraw our sympathy from even that situation.

Karen
