Hunting and the Bible
Comments by Frank and Mary Hoffman - 28 Mar 2006

Dear Jeff:

Thank you for writing and for your comments and questions.

Some of our responses are below. Others are in the discussion section of our web site, particularly those relating to Bible passages.

We believe the same as you do about salvation.

We also have a similar background, and live on a lake in the country with all kinds of wildlife around us. Many years ago, when the Holy Spirit entered our lives, we began to feel the pain and suffering of the whole of creation, and could no longer knowingly bring harm to any aspect, whether it be human, animal, or the environment. We know that what we do isn't perfect, and that's part of living in a fallen world covered by God's grace. However, we don't see God's grace covering any willful harming or killing, particularly when it isn't absolutely necessary.

We don't believe there's such a thing as ethical hunting, or for that matter anything ethical about animal farming, particularly factory farming. We don't need to eat animals. There is more than an abundance of healthful plant foods.

We disagree with your understanding of our Christian heritage. Christianity began as a sect of Judaism, but with the rejection of Jesus as Messiah, they split, but that doesn't eliminate any of the other principles upon which Christianity is founded. Jesus said that the perfect love He taught fulfilled the Law and Prophets, but eliminated nothing.

Dominion is stewardship and not domination. The Genesis 9 passage is a concession of God and not his creation or heavenly intent.  Please read our commentay.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
