Frank L. Hoffman Interviewed: Genetic Engineering
Answer by Frank L. Hoffman - 25 Feb 2003

Dear Colin and Others:

There is no reference in the Bible to Genetic Engineering, but in the creation events there is a consistent reference to "after its kind", which to my understanding means that everything created was to be limited to the natural selection of it's kind.

As an example a donkey and a horse are similar but not of the "same kind", and they can even procreate, but the offspring, a mule, is neuter so that no further cross breeding can occur.

Natural selective pollination has produced some "improvements" in plants, but in the case of wheat, it has increased the allergic reaction. If we compare this with an ancient wheat such as spelt of Kamut, which produce far less allergic reactions, we come to the logical conclusion that we have tampered with something beyond God's intent.

If we look at the farmed animal industry's use of antibiotics, we know that it has produced mutated organisms that are immune to our normal antibiotics, and we have found some for which we have no treatment, and this is only a naturally occurring mutation brought on by environmental conditions.

From our understanding, when we come to genetic engineering, we are always involved in some form of xenotransmutation, because the gene is being carried on a virus and/or is from another species.

To Mary and me, this is a blueprint for disaster. And we both believe that this is being confirmed by the Holy Spirit.

God has given us all a degree of intelligence and the ability to reason.

Part of this is a free will and common sense. This also confirms to us that genetic engineering is extremely dangerous. There are just too may examples of natural selection problems to ignore the pending problems of genetic engineering.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank
