Loving Nature

To us, a person cannot fully love God unless he or she also loves God's creation:

whether it's expressed in the form of Mary's painting at the top of the page, or in Carol Vito's photo of this winter wonderland,

or through the gentle beauty of this mother and child drinking water,

or the beauty of this spotted touch-me-not,

or through this cat and rat who prove that Isaiah's prophecy of a peaceable kingdom (11:6-9) is a reality,

or through this peaceful encounter with a mouse in a tree.

Hello Terri,

Welcome to the group. I think all of us on the group share your feelings and do what we can to lessen human and non-human suffering.

I was standing out in our apiary yesterday, next to a hive, and all the bees were out flying because the sun was out and it was somewhat warm. I must have made a good sitting post because tens of bees alighted on me as they returned with their pollen loads. One girl chose to land on my eyelashes, loaded down with full pollen baskets, and sat there for a full minute, probably catching her breath. As I watched, through six legs and two baskets of pollen (representing two or three hours work in freezing temperatures), it made me feel privileged to experience nothing but wonder and gratitude at the miracle and beauty of creation. And certainly, without those opportunities to wonder and marvel the world would certainly become a very gray place for me indeed.

In Christ's Peace,

Stephen (Augustine)
