Jenny Moxham, whilst clearly passionate about animal rights, needs to do her homework, instead of making sweeping claims & emotive statements like “miserable life in captivity”, ”forced to endure” & “no tasks to exercise intelligence or skills”.
The great majority of modern zoos do house their animals in natural, comfortable and stimulating environments.
They help educate and impassion the public about the plight of their wild and endangered cousins through close up encounters and media stories.
Her efforts would be better served changing the mind set of many Asian countries regarding the housing of, the exploiting of, display of, and eating of, many endangered animals,
instead of targeting organizations here in Australia which raise millions of dollars to donate to animal welfare groups worldwide.
Oh – and we do not have any “baby lions” here as mentioned in her article.
