In Reference to Growing a Papaya Tree from Seed

Two years ago I dried the seeds from a papaya bought in the supermarket. I just spread them in the ground and lightly covered them. I live in Northern Florida.

Many of the seeds sprouted, but only two survived the winter. The following winter was very mild, just a couple of light frosts. I now have two trees over 14 ft. tall, which are constantly producing great quantities of fruit.

We picked our first harvest in May, about 30 fruit, but now in October we have harvested over 50 fruit weighing about 4 lbs. each and there are just as many still on the trees and more blossom and young fruit.

I expect it will all be over if we have some hard frosts this winter, but it has been a wonderful experience, especially as I have given them no care what so ever.
