A calorie problem cannot be attributed a single meal of a health conscious whole plant food vegan’s diet. We have heard the stories about combining fruits with veggies and grains messing up the digesting process, but we haven’t seen anything about it destroying nutrition, as long as we are eating a well-rounded diet, and we have never had a problem.
Some very healthful greens such as kale and collard greens can be on the bitter side if included in smoothies, so adding fruit helps sweeten them, particularly for people who don’t eat enough veggies.
Some of our green smoothies only have an apple or an apple and a banana. And we have these 5 to 6 days a week, and Mary is always at the lower end of her ideal weight, and she drinks just as much as I do.
We’ve been doing smoothies for at least 20 years, and we’re in our mid 70’s and have no chronic illnesses, take no mediations, and rarely see a doctor.
