Dear Friends:

Of the dozen or so companion animals that we raised from infants, none of them had an instinct to kill.  They would play but rarely hurt.  And when they did hurt someone, we would scold them to stop and even pray with them for a gentle spirit.   Some of the other animals did have a learned desire to kill, and we had to keep them under control.

As an example of the gentleness, one day Mary didn't see or hear any of the four cats who lived with us at that time.  She went into our bedroom looking for them, and there before our sliding glass door were the four cats peacefully watching a mouse eat the gum from one of our tropical plants.  Mary walked over and gently reached down and picked up the mouse in her hand and took it outside.

We sincerely believe that this is an example of bringing Isaiah's prophecy (11:6-9) to reality in the here and now.

In the Love of the Lord,
Frank
