Thank you, we are in some agreement here.
I have been thinking as I have studied this subject that God clearly saw the heart of Cornelius at Acts 10. Of Abel when he made his sacrifice (confirmed in the New Testament) of Abraham (when Paul discusses Abraham's righteousness in the book of Romans). Of course works play no part at all and so no one can boast neither Abraham nor us. This "seeing the intent of the heart" seems to me to answer the question of random chance very well. Of course God is sovereign and I can only try to understand in my humble way based on the ability he has given me.
Thank you - answers to question help me to study the word more and to consider both sides of scriptural questions.
