Dear Marilyn:
Thank you for writing. We also wish that many of these Bible passages were clearer in their meaning in light of today's world.
Times were a lot different then and very little animal products were being eaten. Most were plant foods.
When we come to putting this in context with the other things that Jesus teaches us, we come to the understanding that Jesus wants us to be perfect and live by our Father's heavenly and creation intent, where there is no suffering or death. Thus, we are to choose only the plant foods to eat.
Part of being a peacemaking child of God is letting others know who we are and what we stand for, which we do all the time, so whenever we go anywhere, there is always vegan food for us. People stopped offering us animal foods within a couple of years of us becoming vegan.
If we give in to the ways of the world, people will believe that we aren't really committed to a vegan lifestyle, and they will remember our giving in far longer then they will remember what we say we stand for.
Think about something. Which is worse, hurting someone's feeling for a few minutes or causing an animal to have a lifetime of suffering. We need to help others to understand...really understand.
All we can say is that it has worked for us and a lot of other people.
We hope this helps.
In the Love of the Lord,
Frank and Mary
