Great sermon!!!
Those passive souls who merely CLAIM Christianity are like "couch potatoes"
watching a baseball game on TV, from home. But those who actively seek to
keep themselves pure and acceptable conduits for God to speak and act
through (as Jesus said we MUST, to be in God's Kingdom!) are like the
players on the field. And you are THOROUGHLY correct in your assertion that
many "Christians", including "pastors" have allowed Satan's spirit to infect
them: placing their petty, even blood-thirsty, sense addictions above the
importance of compassion. They can become very hostile, even violent, when
it is suggested that they are alienating God through this stance! Yet
frequently continue in it at least until the negative consequences (health,
etc.) "catch up" to them.
I have direct and very shocking experience with the verity of your
assertions:
Many years ago, I had trouble with a military, heavy red-meat eater
("Episcopalian") who swatted me in the head (hard!) for politely declining
the steak he placed before me. ( He also resented me for not smoking and
drinking alcohol with him.) On a later encounter, he, so very drunk that he
could barely speak at all, slurred; "Yeurrre tu hard onyershelf. Yieuu sheld
looshenupan' have a little FUN!" as he pulled me toward him in what felt like
a sexual "pass".
I pushed him away, declaring: "Man, you must be the devil!"
At which point "I AM SATAN!" barked from him, IN A TOTALLY SOBER,
GUTTERAL GROWL THAT WAS NOT AT ALL THIS MAN'S OWN, IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR
FORM! (His own sober voice was a high-pitched, nasal whine.) The he swung
and broke my eardrum, and I have avoided him diligently ever since.
Don't ever let anyone tell you that Satan is "mythical" or "allegorical"!!!
