Yes, Ray, I have often thought, when seeing people be so enmeshed in dogma and in its promotion as the "right" belief, that it's akin to certain siblings of human parents who vie for the most attention.... who seem to have a need to be "special" in the eyes of their parents. Then there are the siblings who are content just knowing they're loved, without feeling a need to be "special". It seems to often be just that way among religions, too, in relation to God.

True humility has nothing to do with lack of self esteem... I think it's mostly a recognition that everyone and everything else God created is as special and as worthy as each of use are, each here to serve in unique ways according to Divine will.

But I think you're right that many religions...not just Christian churches... use that fairly common desire for self-importance and specialness as a tool to attract congregants. There's a lot more emphasis on the concept of God and God's creation serving humans than on humans serving God and God's creation.

I guess if ever we all come to the point where humans are more focused on recognizing God as special, rather than trying to promote ourselves as such, then the animals will fare a lot better. It looks bleak now, I know, but I'm ever hopeful that one day, things will change. Transformation.

Blessings to all,
Juli
