From Lambeth Palace - 20 Oct 1994
The Archbishop of Canterbury has asked me to write thanking you for
your letter of 17 October.
Whilst not a vegetarian himself, Dr Carey respects and admires those
who are, whether from principle or from personal preferance. The
Archbishop has for many years been a keen advocate of good practice
in animal husbandry and has signalled his commitment to a wide range
of animal welfare issues by becoming the first Vice-Patron of the
Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He and his
wife have visited the offices of the RSPCA this year, and he
supports the excellent work of the Royal Society in a number of
active ways.
