In all humility, I would have to take issue with the "Burgers for
Christ" concept of evangelism espoused in your editorial (18 March). If
today's Christians are to exemplify a lifestyle characterised by mercy
and love, then the by-products of slaughterhouses need greater
contemplation in the light of the increasingly compassionate society
which we seek to convert! Far more refreshing reading was to be found in Rob Warner's
sympathetic evaluation of Christian duties - yes, they do exist - to the
plight of animals and the environment. It is interesting to note also
that the Archbishop of Bologna has inadvertently identified such issues
as belonging to the wider category of general philanthropy. So often, "Christian" objections to concern for animals are anything
but! Christian Herald |
