Turkey killings unjustified

There are traditional Christian misgivings towards the festive season which are expressed at this time every year.

The commercialism, drunken excess and lack of focus on the real meaning of the Son of God becoming man are all worthy reasons, for dissilusionment arising amongst the remaining religious of the 21st century.

Yet the slaying of countless birds which has characterised all too many a Christmas, over recent centuries, receives barely a murmor of disapproval from today's Church.

Is it not an entire travesty of compassion and goodwill to breed for sacrifice 10 million turkeys in the U.K. alone?
