I was interested to read your article, 'Will your pet go to heaven?'
(May 15) about the services for pets and their owners at St
Margaret's Church, Horsforth, Leeds.
Several churches now hold such services, mostly in October to
commemorate St Francis of Assisi, and prayers are said for animals
that are treated cruelly.
I think Christians should be concerned about the welfare of all
animals. The Bible tells us to be good stewards of animals but
humans often fail to do this.
It cannot be acceptable to God when battery hens are kept in
cages so small that they have no room to walk or even open their
wings.
