Archbishop's remark on dogs

A dog is not a person but it is still wrong to cause it unnecessary pain. All animals are made for the honour and glory of God. Should we then beat them for no good reason, or let them starve when we can properly feed them?
I think Archbishop Battisi of Udine is easily misunderstood (Jan 22) and could cause cruel people to remain so, or get worse. He seems to lack the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi.
