May I point out to Irene Casey that in my letter I stated that God
created animals to serve the needs of mankind.
Some animals may be used as household pets, others for
entertainment, but a large proportion supply us with necessary food.
I agree that we should be kind to animals and that slaughtering
should be made as painless as possible, but in case Irene Casey's
views have raised doubts in some readers' minds about the morality
of eating flesh meat, may I console them by quoting an extract from
Our Lord's Parable, 'The Prodigal Son' - 'And bring hither the
fatted calf, and kill it: and let us eat and make merry.'
