Review By Conor Gearty of
On God and Dogs: a Christian theology of compassion for animals
By Stephen H. Webb

From The Tablet dated 3 October 1998

The other two books occupy a very different intellectual space from that so triumphantly filled by Hilda Kean. On God and Dogs is a stimulating analysis by an associate professor of religion and philosophy of a Christian approach to animals, and one in particular that draws inspiration from the secular "animal rights" movement.. The author has also learned from what he calls "a feminist revaluation of the importance of feeling in the moral life", of the value of being "unafraid to talk about animals with emotion".
