Seems like more and more aging celebrities (actors, singers, etc.),
whose popularity has waned, are finding a second career as snake oil
promoters for the huge, powerful pharmaceutical industry.
These mouthpieces for the promotion of medications and supplies for
illnesses are at the forefront of a new kind of status symbol – the
status symbol of disease – primarily preventable chronic disease. And if
you think that the public doesn’t fall for this kind of duping, think
again, and just look around you.
Then there are the still employed television personalities who seem
to publicize their diseases (such as cancer of the breast or colon;
heart disease by-pass surgery, etc.) to keep their ratings up. The
public really eats this up!
And have you noticed how popular cosmetic surgery has become? Why
it’s become another form of entertainment to watch on TV!
The people obsessed with physical appearance, youth, and health are
led by slick industries. Snake oil promoters have evolved into
sophisticated, high tech manipulators of suckers who are complicit in
their own degradation.
The cycle of disease from poor health habits to biomedical research
to pharmaceuticals to prolonging chronic disease for profit appears to
be unbreakable. The government and powerful industries work together to
profit from the public who are told to “eat a healthy diet and
exercise.” Notice that the “healthy diet” propaganda never tells the
truth about the deleterious effect of the consumption of dairy products
on most people, or the negative side of eating flesh and eggs.
And of course the public is never told anything about the enormous,
unnecessary, pain and suffering endured by billions of animals. From the
concentration camps of the biomedical research labs to those of the
factory farming industries, the horrors go on and on in an unbroken
cycle day in and day out.
Animal “welfare” measures are inadequate and simply wishful thinking.
The only way to bring some sanity to this very sad state of affairs is
to give other animals the protection they can only achieve through legal
rights. Look at God’s original plan as outlined in the Hebrew (Old)
Testament (Genesis 1:24-25 and 29-31). Before the Fall, God pronounces
what He has made “good” and “very good.”
The hidden and denied cruelty of this fallen world cries out to
Heaven. The Peaceable Kingdom of Isaiah and the promises of Revelation
must become reality. One small human step toward this goal, before the
final return of Jesus, is for humans to grant legal rights to other
animals.
