Day Before Christmas – 24 December 2006
It’s 7:30 in the morning. I just came back into the house after
taking some photos of the sunrise over the lake. As an early riser,
one of the first things I do is look outside. It’s hard to resist a
beautiful sunrise, and I have to get out there as quickly as possible
to capture some of it with the camera before the dramatic colors fade
away. I missed taking a photo of a flock of geese flying overhead. But
it was a treat just seeing them and hearing their honking so close by.
I’m thinking of the contrast between the peace and quiet beauty of
the morning here and the incessant, totally unnecessary warring madness
tearing the world apart. From the killing of each other to the killing
of other animals round the clock in industrial slaughterhouses, humans
“talk the talk” but refuse to “walk the walk” of “peace on earth and
mercy mild.”
That’s why my daily prayer is “Come back now, Lord Jesus, and put an
end to all of this cruelty and injustice.”

"Joyful Curmudgeon"
An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the
same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the
world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true
peace and compassion.Blog
