A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Fur and Faux Fur – 27 January 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

The use of fur and faux fur (synthetic fur) has become a nightmare. I understand that some “real” fur is even deliberately labeled as being synthetic! Once becoming aware, many years ago, of the cruelty of fur production I never fell for the “trap” of using “faux” fur or anything that looked like fur. And I’m glad I didn’t. I just stayed away from buying or wearing anything that even remotely looked like “the real thing.”

After fur sales plummeted, I had no idea that the sneaky re-introduction of fur via “trim” would become so ubiquitous. Nowadays it’s sad to see so many people wearing coats and jackets with hoods so obviously trimmed with fur – even with dog and cat fur.

People who buy fur and fur trim, whether “real” or “faux,” may think that it makes them look more attractive, when actually it reveals the ugliness of their souls for desiring to wear a product of horrendous cruelty.
