Today is Great Friday, also known as Good Friday, when Christians
commemorate the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ. For many this is
a day of fasting, prayer, and repentance. But I wonder why so few make
the connection between their religious beliefs and their attitude
toward “the least among us” who include billions of animals in factory
farms, laboratories, fur farms, puppy mills, et cetera.
I also wonder how so many of these same people will go out and
contribute to cruelty by buying a live “Easter bunny” for their child,
dying “Easter eggs,” and serving “food” from the farmed animal
industries in order to celebrate His Resurrection (Easter)? The animal
exploiters would like nothing better than to hide the truth from the
public so that they’ll continue to buy their products. Why can’t the
Church and the public see the horrible irony of their behavior?
Perhaps they should ask the Lord if He approves of having His
sacrifice on the cross commemorated by such inhumane and insensitive
behavior. Pretending that the cruelty doesn’t exist is the same as
lying; and we all know who the father of lies is: Satan. Jesus said that
“…the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32)
It’s time for people to set themselves free from Satan’s lies and to
start living in the truth.
