A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Dumb and Dumber – 28 June 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

Have you noticed how many of the commercials shown on TV can best be described as “dumb” and “dumber”?

Maybe you’ve seen the one about a certain brand of steak sauce. Some guys are standing around an outdoor grill. After the meat has been removed, one man sees some steak sauce still clinging to the hot grill – so-o-o-o, he bends over the hot grill to lick that little bit remaining with his tongue. As though eating meat isn’t backward or dumb enough, this guy takes dumbness to a new low; and, with a big smile on his face, proudly sticks out his burnt tongue, as he is ushered into an ambulance.

I guess companies figure that they know their customer base; and that there’s not much chance of “insulting their intelligence,” so they don’t have to worry about that. After all, they’re appealing to the dumb and dumber.
